Enable Notepad Status Bar along with Word Wrap option in Windows7-Vista-XP

notepad_enable_statusbarIf you are an avid user of Windows text editor Notepad, here is a trick to enable “status bar” while you use the “Word Wrap” option.  While using Word Wrap option in Notepad, you might have noticed the Status Bar option is grayed out— you can enable this option by making some changes in Windows registry.

Normally you can enable the status bar to display, only when the word wrap option is disabled, but the following trick will let you enable the status bar even when the word wrap option is enabled.
Follow the easy steps to enable this:

  1. Incase if there are any notepads opened, close them after enabling Word Wrap option.
  2. Type Win+R (or Press Windows Button and Click Run)
  3. Type “regedit” (without the quotes) and click “OK”.
  4. Once the registry editor is opened browse to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad

Now double click on the value name “StatusBar” (which is in right hand side) and change the value data (or key) to 1 from 0.

Open Notepad and you’ll notice the status bar is now enabled. If you disable Word Wrap option, this trick will reset back to normal, so you’d have to make the registry hack again by following the above mentioned easy steps.
